Brett Whiteley (1939 - 1992)
|
Born in Sydney in 1939, Whiteley grew up in Longueville, NSW where he demonstrated a gifted artistic ability from an early age.
Whiteley had an unusual talent for accentuation, deploying an effective colour range, and dealing with the often simple themes of distorted, abstract nudes and primitive shapes. Whiteley’s large canvases and charcoal drawings continue to have a powerful and compelling impact within the national and international art markets. A full biography on Brett Whiteley can be found at www.artinterview.com.au see: Brett Whiteley Artist Biography.
After the death of Brett Whiteley his Sydney art studio and home was turned into an exhibition space managed by The Art Gallery of NSW, called The Brett Whiteley Studio.
