The most important drawing prize in Australia. It was established in 1993 as an initiative of the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation. It is named after the Australian artist William Dobell.
The Winner of the 2006 Dobell Prize for drawing was Melbourne artist and university art teacher Nick Mourtzakis for his self portrait "nature. insects plants flowers. shells fish corals. the microscopic creatures. dreams". Mourtzakis said "For me, my sense of myself is bound up with my sense of myself as an organic being, as part of the organic world,". Mourtzakis has also previously won 'The Dobell' in 2000.
