The display supports the PIAF 2006 Nyoongar Budja theme
exploring identity, change and representation, using works by Nyoongar artists in the State Collection as its base. The exhibition and the artists themselves ask a number of questions. What makes someone Nyoongar? How does the history of white contact and cultural change affect how Nyoongar people think about themselves, how they see who they are? What is important to Nyoongar people at this point in time? Why is a form of representation important to Nyoongar people and how does this occur in art?
