In an exciting collaboration between the MCA and the University of Wollongong, this exhibition focuses on prints and multiples from both permanent collections. Prints & Multiples showcases a selection ranging from studio-produced master prints such as Andy Warhol’s Hot dog bean, limited edition ‘ready-mades’ by Joseph Beuys and the mass-produced and socially charged multiples by artists including Jenny Holzer.
The exhibition aims to tell an alternate history of prints and multiples over the past 40 years. Particular themes include the notion of the unique work of art; the incorporation of the vernacular, the individual and the collective production of art work, and the role of ‘political’ or activist art.
The exhibition is planned to tour to regional galleries in 2007-2008 and follows a similar structure as Wild Thang! encouraging galleries to show prints and/or multiples from their own collections in conjunction with the presentation of this exhibition.
