This exhibition focuses on the period from the 1950’s to the late 1970’s when lifestyle and culture, engaging with new technologies and increasing materialism, dramatically changed. By selecting artists who grew up in those years, and by including toys they played with, the exhibition establishes connections to the wider community, reinforcing the audience’s relationship with, and understanding of, the art presented. The artists’ work shows the influences of a childhood where television, popular culture and mass marketing, became the framework of their formative experiences.
