PICA's HATCHED National Graduate Show is the most prestigious and comprehensive survey of new emerging artists in Australia today. This annual exhibition combines works of all mediums, dimensions and intentions while also presenting a snapshot of Australia's future leading artists and artistic practices. HATCHED receives significant media coverage and has consistently been PICA's most popular annual event. In 2006 it attracted over 10,000 visitors.
Whilst the Hatched exhibition provides an important opportunity for graduating artists to be shown in a major gallery and alongside their peers throughout Australia, the Symposium and Schools program form a vital supporting role, encouraging the exploration and discussion of new ideas and the establishment of a national network. The aims of the Hatched programs are to introduce contemporary art and ideas to as many young people as possible and to nurture and encourage the future generation of contemporary artists.
