If nothing lasts forever, how then can a thing be eternal? This is the question posed by Melbourne artist Richard Grigg in his installation life after life. In this eclectic installation Grigg presents a diorama reminiscent of a scene from an early Renaissance fresco. A life-size sculpture of a Franciscan robe, devoid of a figure but poised in reverence, is set against a background of blue skies and mountain ranges. Interspersed in this landscape are seemingly disparate forms and images including tempera painting, sculpted birds, a stack of paintings each depicting a Box Brownie camera.
