The exhibition A Bird in the Hand juxtaposes recent works by two established contemporary artists on the basis of a currently shared subject matter - birds. Wolseley's art starts from an interest in the investigation of natural ecological systems whereas Clark's starts with an interest in cultural ecology. The fact that both artists are currently focusing their projects on the representation of birds, raises some obvious questions (Why birds? And why birds now?) providing the opportunity for an investigation of the relationship between natural and cultural ecologies - the interaction between nature and culture. This is the heart of both of their projects.
