A touring exhibition of sixteen portraits punttu developed by the Nyinkka Nyunyu Cultural Centre in Tennant Creek, to personalise the concept of punttu or family for non-indigenous audience. The exhibition has been designed to explain and share with the public Aboriginal (Warumungu) skin relationships - a fundamental social structure that determines all marriages and kinship associations. The prints are a series of portraits that illustrate each skin name, produced with a unique Tennant Creek flavour. The portraits are bold and naïve in style and include the work of artists such as Peggy Nappangarti Jones, Flora Naljarri Holt, Michael Jampin Jones and Harold Jakkamarra Morrison. The exhibition also addresses issues of identity, history and contemporary life and has an education kit. Included as a part of the exhibition is a video narrated by the Warumungu Indigenous community that helps to provide further insight into skin relationships and family cultural values.
Presented by ArtBack Northern Territory Arts touring.
