Iconic artworks from New York’s famous Guggenheim Museum will come to the National Gallery of Victoria International in 2007 as the latest instalment in the highly successful Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series. Works by modern masters such as Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons will be the centrepieces of the exhibition Guggenheim Collection: 1940s to now New York – Venice – Bilbao – Berlin.
It will be the first time that the internationally renowned Guggenheim collections are shown in Melbourne and the exhibition will include more than 100 works by 68 artists, from 18 different nationalities. Works will be drawn mainly from the Guggenheim Museum in New York but will also include major works from other Guggenheim collections in Venice, Bilbao and Berlin.
The Guggenheim Collection is the fourth exhibition in the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series, following from the highly successful exhibitions The Impressionists, Dutch Masters and Picasso: Love & War. From abstract art to minimalism, pop art to contemporary, this amazing collection will stun viewers with its breadth and diversity of works.
