Victoria’s first State Zoologist William Blandowski camped for several months at Mondelemin (near Merbein) in 1857 where he studied local fauna. Hi work was greatly assisted by local Aboriginal people who brought him specimens and shared their knowledge. Blandowski was a colourful character and an important part of the European history of the district. Illustrations, photographs, manuscripts and artefacts from the expedition will be brought together for the first time. The exhibition and a symposium on the subject is a collaboration between Mildura Arts Centre, Museum Victoria, The Royal Society and La Trobe University.
