Born 1946. Quirky verging on the surreal. Paintings in oil and pastel like fractured fairy tails. A world of innocence but with an ominous edge. His paintings are fantastic and bizarre. Subject broad, including childhood and childhood narratives, flowers still life and nudes. Alternating between expressionists’ impastoed brushwork and sensitive detail he experiments with colour and texture. The glazed surfaces of his oils give his works an ethereal quality. He has won numerous awards including the Archibald in 1990 for his portrait of the writer Colleen McCullough and he won the Sulman in 1976. He has exhibited in all state capitals since 1966 and in represented in the NGA and all state galleries, plus corporate collections and even Elton Johns collection.
