Whilst planting Karakarook’s garden (2005-06) at Heide, Berkowitz collected native and exotic plant materials for an indoor work, Demeter’s garden. A field of sensual floral abundance, Demeter’s garden evokes narratives of the harvest and the power of the seasons and the importance of regeneration and healing to a fertile landscape that is at the heart of mythological Karakarook’s powers.
