"Over the last five years, my practice has revolved around an interest in drapery, garments and fabric. The garments I have used are mainly highly structured vintage coats. I am interested in the detail of their construction and the way they can be made to stand in for the absent body. Most of these large works investigate the interior of the coats as they hang on the wall manipulated and pinned by me, with the sleeves turned inside out. The coats have their own history and presence as second-hand garments which influences the reading of the form. The smell, the creases, the texture and surface, the wear and tear and the imperfections, are an important part of what interests me. They are like discarded skins, holding the memories of bodily presence." (Amanda Robins, 2007)
