A current Bachelor of Painting student at the Victorian College of the Arts, this is Gonzalo Ceballos’ first solo exhibition.
Born in Chile, Gonzalo and his family arrived in Melbourne when he was four years old, fleeing from the Pinochet dictatorship.
Although none of the artwork in the exhibition was actually created in Chile, the title of the exhibition reflects the strong influence his cultural background has had on his artwork.
The artwork in the exhibition will include drawings, paintings, sculpture and even cultural research. He uses strong line work to create simple images that express strong ideas. His brush strokes often appear unrestrained and when coupled with bold colour his work has a raw and aggressive appearance.
Key themes he explores are family, innocence, love and jealousy. He has the ability to see beauty in the most simple of life’s scenarios.
Visit Made In Chile to be challenged by artwork that is unlike anything else currently in the Melbourne art scene.
